TECH WEEKEND: Or: How I Almost BECAME a One-Legged Clown

We dance a lot in this show. Just saying. A. Lot.

Tech went pretty smoothly for the most part. Got through ALL of Act 1 and half of Act 2 on Saturday, and finished Act 2 AND had a run AND got out an hour early on Sunday! Pretty schweet. Minimal diva drama (though not entirely without it). And the show looks and sounds good!

The only thing is the set. It's not done. There were no curtains up this weekend (which will affect lights and sound AND us), the floor isn't painted (affects lights), and things were poorly constructed. As in fell apart. Under me.

During our run last night, I was hopping down the stairs that lead up to an upper platform. And as I hopped, the last stair snapped beneath me. I fell, yeah obviously, and my other leg was still harnessed up so I couldn't catch myself with anything but my hands. I didn't fall far, and I basically landed in a kneel. I'm fine, like my shin's bruised, but nothing's broken. We're pretty mad at the TD to begin with, but come ON. Seriously. I was told that this set was being designed and built with the knowledge that there would be a one-legged actor. When you're building a set out of compressed sawdust, you're really not taking the fact that there's a HOPPER in the show into consideration. Sorry, but true. Also, I was promised one more ramp than I got, so it's lucky my harness is easily removed. Just saying.

But all things considered it was a nice weekend. Nice weather, decent food, PUPPIES (Jay brought his tiny little spaniel baby Harold Pinter and his pony-sized great dane Venus), and good work from all involved. Crandall's come up with this amazing theme that sounds like water glasses in harmony that always makes me want to cry, and I'm loving the color Andrew chose for this show. (Yes, my boyfriend is designing the show I'm in. We vowed never to, but there you go.)

So yeah. I'm at the Lansburgh today where there's no iGoogle, no Facebook, no nothing but BLOG and STCemail and PROBABLY Wikipedia if I get too bored. I don't know what I'd look up... probably one legged people again... It's only been an hour and I'm BORED outta my skull. NOTHING to take my mind off things. Blagh. Expect more posts today if things get too bad.
