YAY!
But wait a second. They called me after THREE WEEKS.
AND they wanted me next Monday. I'm leaving for Detroit in the wee hours of Sunday and won't be back for a week. It would have cost me $325 to change the flight to Monday afternoon.
I rushed to HR and asked if there was any way I could meet with the Librarian TODAY. No, he's meeting with Board Members all day. I explained myself, you know, I waited to hear and when I didn't hear I made the plans before it got too expensive. You know? If you want to schedule something like this a week's notice is usually very nice. I mean, come on! Even if I wasn't going out of town, I'd still have work to work around!
Anyway, they were able to move me to May 19th when I get home.
In the meantime, Round House is now 2 days overdue. And if I hear from them, what can I tell them? "I love you guys, I really do, but I'm still in the process of interviewing for a job that pays a lot more." They're not going to hold the position for me JUST IN CASE the Folger doesn't pan out.
The timing on this is all just very bad.
When I was a kid, just starting out in Acting, I went out for two plays at once: A Children's Theatre show for The Emporer's New Clothes and a musical murder mystery. The murder mystery part would have been a lot bigger (I would have been the adorable 10 year old murderess), so when the Children's Theatre called the next day I turned down the Emperess, believing that I had done well enough to do the musical. About an hour later (no lie) the musical called to say thanks for coming out... I threw myself on my bed and cried and cried. I had gambled and lost it all! Meanwhile my dad was calling the Children's Theatre back and explaining the situation, and they were able to fit me into the part that the now-empress had had: one of the quack doctors at the top of the show.
My dad explained to me then, and I'm not sure if I learned, that this is the sort of risk I will certainly face. I thought it only applied to acting, but it's apparently applied to professional work as well. If Round House offers and I decline, holding out for the bigger role, what's to say that Folger will definitely offer? They could call an hour later and say thanks for coming out... But this time my dad can't call Round House and say "is there anything left?" There won't be anything left. There will only be STC until the next set of jobs opens up and I go into interviews again. And who knows how long that could take.
God. When did Adult Life get so Hard?
