Didja Miss Me?! (Post from Tuesday)

Hello! I'm back... and blogging so I must be at STC. Yep. After 12 glorious days of NOT being here... I'm here... for now.

DETROIT!

I was there. It was my vacation, and my first extended time off since September (I'm not so sure December counts).

Here's how it went down:

Oresteia opened that Saturday night. I don't know WHAT happened between when I saw the preview and sighed and when I saw the opening night but somewhere in there warm water got added to that powder and it was JELL-O ladies and gents! It was a pretty smooth show, and only I noticed any discrepancies. The Post hated it (as always) but it's been getting some pretty decent press. Congrats!

Anyway, back to the story: about an hour after opening night ended Melissa took Tolmie and I home where I changed and made sure everything was packed and vacuumed. Then I went over to Matt and Alie's to try Wii Racing. Just like all car games, I sucked at it. But it kept me awake. Then it was a very very LATE Rite Aid dinner and waiting for the Super Shuttle at 3:30am. It came. I went to the Airport. I watched Animated Shakespeare on my iPod to keep conscious (didn't work). And caught my flight at 6:40am. And slept the whole way there.

Andrew picked me up after my flight landed early. We reunited. And I napped on the most comfortable bed in the world while he went to work. I think. I can't remember if I napped or went with him. That might have been later, anyway I did go to work with him at some point to say hi and walk around one of the most awesome Opera Houses in the US.

I pretty much spent the week watching Friends (seasons 7-10) on DVD, eating Pizza Papalis Pizza, and napping or whatever around Andrew's kickass apartment. We made dinner a couple of nights, and went to John K King books of course. We also saw Iron Man (5 effing stars, baby!), and Prince Caspian (6 out of 5)!!!

We went to dinner one night at the Coach Insignia, which is a restaurant at the top of the GM building: the tallest building in Detroit. From there you can see the sun set over Michigan and Canada... and Ohio... yeah it rocks. We had wine and the most amazing food ever (did you know chicken can melt in your mouth? yeah, it can). And it was good.

I had to ... I mean GOT to... see the opera that weekend: La Traviata. Which is basically the story of Moulin Rouge only more confusing and looooonger. Lady, if you're going to die, effing DIE and stop collapsing all over the set getting my hopes up! And I don't get it! The guy's dad told her she was an awesome person, but her past was tawdry, but she's pretty awesome for giving his son up, but he wants her to be with his son... WHAT?! Anyway, Opera and I... I guess we don't get along. I keep trying.

Then on my way home I spent a few hours in the airport and heard this gem: "Hey dad, see that screen up there? Like, you know when you play Halo in 4-player it divides the screen into quarters? [Dad: I don't even know what Halo is...] Like, on that screen in 4 player, everyone would, like, have a big screen! I mean, that thing is like 5 times my height and like, 3 times my... the opposite of height." Turns out that little family were my seat neighbors. Whoo.

Monday morning I had my second interview at the Folger. I don't know how it went. I won't know til I know, you know? Also got my rejection letter from Round House. Oh well.

More later!
