Now, I have had far too many FIRST days to even begin recounting all of those adventures as a prelude. However, I will say that I was super-excited this morning to begin working at Shakespeare Theatre Company (for the second time). I had been in the Education Department last year as an intern, and they finally hired me this week as a Full Time Box Office Attendant.
It was like the first day of school! I laid out the cutest outfit I could think of, barely ate breakfast for nerves, and left a little too early. I arrived at the Harman and filled out paperwork there, admiring all the nice desk areas and comfy chairs... then construction on the office resumed, so we fled to the Lansburgh. At the Lans I could see myself hating my job and slitting my wrists with a paper clip eventually. It's so confined and old, not to mention impromptu. Headphones hang from the walls on bent paperclips, and I think I was sitting at an old school desk for most of the day. Also, because this theatre is crazy busy/huge the phones didn't stop ringing all day. I wished I could have helped. Instead I took up space doing what i could with Database Checking and learning how to do Exchanges while everyone else answered every call AND had to call everyone with a reservation to Sunday night's preview of TAMBURLAINE.
I made it to 6 o'clock (of course). Finiding out that staff gets free expired cookies until the new caterers take over made my DAY! I have an unhealthy obsession with baked goods.
Which leads me to my second first of the day: my first trip to the on-site gym!
First of all, it was SO cold in that place that I had to leave my sweatshirt on. They should not be pumping that much air! That said, I used to be able to do a full hour on the elliptical. That was back in April at CUA where I knew most people and if I didn't so what? At least I didn't have to watch myself work out! Who came up with full-wall mirrors anyway? I stared at the French translation for "If you feel dizziness, faintness, or shortness of breath, please stop!" for the whole 20 minutes I was on the machine. I can't say it was a fantastic experience, but it was a better way to kill half an hour than sitting on my ass watching tv.
Which leads me to the final first: SCRUBS FINAL SEASON PREMIERE!

It was a bit disappointing, to be honest. It basically ended where it began: in limbo. Grah. But watching television, no matter how good it is, is not a big adventure. So I won't bore you with more.
