Hello Friends!
Yes, the show is over. I miss the friends I made there (KJ, especially) and definitely miss feeling active and creative. BUT I've been getting to sleep at old-people hours and LIKING it, for the most part. My parents enjoyed it (my mother writhed with laughter!) and had fun visiting me in Silver Spring the next day. I love and miss them so much.
Last Monday was supposed to start our Secondary School Festival. It snowed instead. We came into work (since DC was on "liberal leave" for the weather, it didn't make sense not to) just to make the appropriate calls and emails for cancelling the day, but that was it. So we started the Festival on Tuesday instead.
This Festival is a week-long (7 school days) event where we have between 6 and 8 schools per day come and perform their 25 minute pieces of Shakespeare. My favorites were the ones that didn't try to do a scene or a condensed play - but rather those that took a theme and ran with it. Politics in Shakespeare, Thisbe and Juliet, What do Women Want?, and (my personal favorite) Oh, How Vile an Idol which used lines about music to respond to the students singing songs and sonnets from Shakespeare. Best line = Randy: This dog, my dog. HAHAHAHAHHAdork.
So that's how it went - We all came in around 8am - got them all seated and situated by 9 - watched 3 or 4 performances, LUNCH DELIBERATION, 3 or 4 more performances, MORE DELIBERATION, awards ceremony, and about an hour left in the work day to do work. After this - go home and COLLAPSE because even being around 200 students will bouy you for only so long!
Plus we saw Watchmen (which was, in my opinion, terrible except for Rorshach), had movie nights, in-nights, and friend dates. All in all, I'm TIRED. the night before last I baked a personal pizza and crawled into bed at 9:30. 9:30, my friends! WHAT!?
Yes.
And so we come to it - the exhaustion has finally caught up to me. The festival ended that same day I passed out at 10:00pm, and it's been pretty much the same - get home clean something eat dinner watch tv/movie go to bed before 11:00. Interesting, no?
No.
