Holiday Adventures: Part The Onest

Apologies for yesterdays post. Especially given that it was the first in awhile. Suffice to say I've been running in between my 3 jobs for the past 3 weeks and waiting/hoping/praying for today to come so I can just chill and be happy for a couple of days without giving in to the overwhelming dread and downcast state we're in at STC.

Sonia said it best yesterday: He hasn't exactly ruined Christmas, but he has made this season a hell for us. And every time we hear one of these Christmas songs (we keep a radio on in the office) we're going to be reminded of his behavior and what it cost us this Christmas. Sure, he's laid up and probably in pain, but when you're 60 something acting like your 25 you get what you get!

Given the situation, Amy and KC taught me a lot about being Customer Service Angels, which led me to compile the Box Office Commandments: Rules for Keeping Thy Head and Thy Job. 1. Thou canst not change everything, not the weather and especially not Michael Kahn's mind. 2. Ticketing ist not a Life and Death matter, so patrons who treat it as such have skewed priorities (See Rule #1). 3. Thou shalt not get angry at a patron and come down to their level. That's why we have notes in their accounts to warn others and vent about their behavior! 4. Thou shalt know when it is time for lunch.

Anyway, things are looking up since I don't have to be there again until the 28th when everything will have been (hopefully) resolved and we will all finally know what's going on! The very thought of being in the loop restores some of my Christmas joy!

After sitting in the STC Box Office yesterday, blogging, commandment-ing, chatting, doing ANYTHING to keep from calling people (the low point being changing the lyrics of You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch to Mr. Brooks), I needed an uplift. Going to WSC was not supposed to be that. I got there and found that someone had put one of the vine-things (that are triangular) out front with a stick-reindeer and had decorated both with white twinkle lights. Bah! I snorted. Humbug.

Then I opened the door to the dim lobby (all the lobby lights are fried, so we're using lamps from Props storage). Sitting smack in the middle was a 4 foot Christmas tree on a pedestal with presents and lights and ornaments and everything! Around it were the coziest armchairs and a rug, a coffee table, and a few more chairs. One armchair even had a lamp on a table next to it. It looked like a little living room! Cozy and Christmassy. There were Christmas lights and decorations all over, and it looked so nice. I was so pleased. I felt my shriveled Scroogey heart soften and thought, it is almost Christmas after all. It's not all that bad!

I even got home in time last night to watch most of the best parts of Christmas Vacation with the boy, and finally get to see Twin! I gave her her present: the Buffy Season 8 comic and Grimm's Grimmest tales (Illustrated!) and she gave me the DVD of Stardust! And then we got to TALK to EACHOTHER! It was so nice. She and Lee and I have a lot in common when it comes to work. Sigh. Big theatres. You suck.

But Christmas finally doesn't. Please pass the cookies.
